Petit Palace Posada del Peine is the oldest hotel in Madrid and in Spain. A living history that opens like a door to the everyday culture of Calle Postas, but from the inside. And there you are.
Sleeping between its walls is a custom stretched over time. 400 years ago, the Posada del Peine was already the most illustrious guesthouse in the Villa, strategically located next to the point of reception for the royal mail and the Plaza Mayor.
Today it hosts another inn: the purpose of travelers who want to experience something unique in a singular accommodation. Wi-Fi is not incompatible with the legend of room 216 which –it is said– was used to hide fugitives. The nineteenth-century clock of the temple coexists with modern rooms with soul for one, two, three, or four guests. Its varied buffet breakfasts are served in the cellar, which connects with a network of tunnels leading to the Royal Palace.
Listening to what Petit Palace Posada del Peine has to tell
If Petit Palace Posada del Peine could speak... Registered in 1610, it welcomed travelers with a luxury for the time: a comb in the room. Over the centuries, many of them claimed to have seen the ghost of a woman dressed in black.
Listening to the building and the neighborhood, you will reach anywhere. It’s a good place to ask, near the porticoes of the square, in those bars where squid sandwiches are ordered at the counter, in the atmosphere of the novels of Benito Pérez Galdós. All kinds of cultural plans will take you to a place that doesn’t fit on maps. At the end of the day, you will return to a space equally eloquent, designed for you to rest and relax, with quality mattresses, equipped bathroom, television… In addition, we offer personalized attention so you don’t miss a detail. Your pet is also welcome.
The Madrid that endures: a reinterpreted heritage
Just like the Madrid that will discover you, this Petit hotel has several layers. Three different buildings make it up. The most recent is from the nineteenth century and is decorated with tiles and mythological motifs, preserving the original wooden beams and the brick walls you will see at reception. The stone floor is the same as the original cobblestone of the Plaza Mayor. Previously, in the seventeenth century, stained glass windows and the famous coat of arms of the Posada del Peine were added. The facade is protected for its heritage value and frames a clock of 1892.
