We are the oldest hotel in Bilbao. The legend of Petit Palace Arana begins in 1850 with the Zabálburu couple and their five children. In 1909, their home became the Hotel Arana, managed by Modesto Arana and Antonia Ormaechea. We have hosted historical and artistic personalities and have been the heart of local life, preserving our centenary charm.
In addition to being in the very center of Bilbao, we proudly represent its living history. We are part of the memory of the place from a privileged location in front of the Arriaga Theater and the Seven Streets. We are honored to participate in current traditions and the daily rhythm of the neighborhood, reinterpreting its authenticity in every detail.
This is how we try to convey it to you through long walks to discover, corners to linger, and spaces and services to know the true essence of Bilbao.
Petit Palace Arana: the oldest hotel in Bilbao, today
In the twentieth century, the Hotel Arana became inseparable from Bilbao's gastronomy thanks to chefs like Evaristo López de Trotiaga, Ángel Lorente, and Pablo Beobide. It was a social meeting point for singers, bullfighters, football players, politicians, and even future kings.
That shine is maintained in the room where the breakfast buffet is served or in the rooms. Today, Petit Palace Arana preserves its spiral staircase made of brick, its wooden beams from Guinea, and its ashlar stone with views of the Arenal.
Today, we make it easy for you with late check-out, WiFi, bicycles, and amenities that join the relaxed culture of an iconic location by right.
What the hotel Petit Palace Arana has seen
Bidebarrieta Kalea, 2; the entrance to the Seven Streets of the old town of Bilbao –Artekale, Belostikale, Barrenkale, Barrenkale Barrena, Carnicería Vieja, Somera, and Tendería–. It is more than just an address. Being here made the Hotel Arana share decisive life moments with the Arriaga Theater, such as the fire of 1914, when its mattresses were used to cushion a possible jump from the rooftop.
Knowing these stories will take you to what maps do not tell. Life in the bars and restaurants, places like the Arriaga itself or the Plaza Nueva and the Cathedral of Santiago of Bilbao.
We are close to the Ensanche, the Bilbao Arena, the Fine Arts Museum, Etxebarria Park, and the Guggenheim Museum, and about 15 minutes walking from the Nervión river.
