Of all the destinations that define the country of Spain, Madrid holds a special place. A city where to get lost, a shinning capital and one of the best options to enjoy a relaxing weekend that we all need when daily routine begins to take its toll.

Things to do in Madrid, which locations and areas you can’t miss during your getaway weekend, or where to enjoy the most authentic cuisine of Spain’s capital, are some of the highlights in the new Madrid Guide on Trivago’s website, Checkin Spain published at the end of October and which includes our hotel Petit Palace Puerta del Sol among the most distinguished hotels in the city.

Organised from Friday to Sunday, Checkin Spain’s Madrid Guide opts for the city’s most authentic and cultural side and recommends visitors perfect and very original plans to enjoy the many sides of Madrid, from dawn to dusk.

The guide begins on Friday afternoon, exactly when, after having dropped our luggage in the hotel, we decide to experience the in places of the city and enjoy a short play at Madrid’s Micro Theatre or visiting the Labruc Space, a place where design and talent is present in every inch of the building. After some culture, there is no better way to end the day than by either heading to a tavern in Malasaña or a pub in the Chuecas district.

Rested, relaxed and eager to continue discovering the hidden gems of the city, Trivago’s Madrid Guide by Checkin Spain recommends starting Saturday by visiting some of the most iconic landmarks of the city. It includes walking down Arenal Street to the legendary Puerta del Sol gate, as well as visiting the Museum De los Caños del Peral or the Royal Theatre.

A complete tourist tour with stops along the San Miguel Market, Plaza Mayor, the Doré cinema and with the special recommendation to enjoy the popular squid sandwich (bocata de calamares) and Madrid’s nightlife… When the sun goes down, establishments such as La Boca del Lobo, Bar Benteveo or Mi Sitio Fantastico come alive with the highest gastronomic level and with a unique and authentic atmosphere.

And, since the authenticity of the neighbourhoods of the city is one of the landmarks of Madrid, at Trivago’s Madrid Checkin they propose to begin Sunday morning with a visit to the neighbourhood of La Latina, a must area of the city, from where you will enjoy visiting the Market of La Cebada or the Garden of Principe de Anglona, as well as a stroll through the famous flee market Rastro de Madrid.

The best way to end this weekend getaway in Madrid is to head to La Cava Baja, a street packed with bars and restaurants where to “tapear” (eat some tapas) and taste the best flavours of the city from places like El Viajero, Pajaritos Mojados and La Musa Latina.
