There are only a few days left to begin the highly anticipated Salamanca fair of 2014, and inside the town, one can sense already the party atmosphere. Between the 7th and 15th of September, the city hosts the largest of its celebrations, with a number of events and activities that every year brings together more people, and where there is a perfect representation of the gastronomy, tradition and culture of Salamanca.
For more than a week, the city is full of people who do not want to miss the opportunity to enjoy some of the street shows, concerts, bullfighting or the “bull fair” that are organized. The whole party is centred on the celebration on the 8th of September, day of the patron saint of Salamanca, Santa Maria de la Vega.
Like every year, one of the focus points of the celebrations are the concerts that take place each day, for free, in the Plaza Mayor. This year, a large number of well known artists will perform, including artists such as Carlos Baute, Hombres G, La Union, Niña Pastori, La Habitacion Roja, Los Coronas, Vinila Von Bismarck, Auryn, Kepa Junquera and the Pantone. In addition, seven local bands will also be performing.
Among the remaining events, the “Feria de Dia” or Day Fair, stands out and year after year has become one of the most popular parts of the celebrations. About a hundred bars and restaurants, including some of the best tapas bars of Salamanca, set up their stands in different streets and squares of the capital to offer the public some of the best “pinchos”. There is a standard price of 2 two euros for a “pincho” and a drink, but there are also special “pinchos” with different prices.
This year it is also the celebration of the VIII edition of Street Arts Festival, in which a dozen international companies from different origins perform street shows in various disciplines. Theatre actors, acrobats, jugglers, clowns… It’s all a maximum expression of art that takes place at the square of Anaya the square of the Liceo.
It is also highly recommendable the medieval market that is installed in the Vaguada de la Palma where stallholders offer a wide variety of items, or the International Agricultural Fair of Castile and León Agromaq. Bullfighting enthusiasts also enjoy during these days of the Bullfighting Fair of Salamanca 2014.
And to complete the cultural offer of the fairs of Salamanca, two plays will be performed at the Liceo, as well as the musical Les Miserables between the 11th and 15th of September at the Centre for the Performing Arts and Music. The public can also enjoy with the Gala de los Mayores in which a zarzuela called “La Verbena de la Paloma ‘ will be interpreted, as well as over 20 sporting events.
