The XVIIth edition of the Basketball World Championship will be celebrated in Spain between the 30th of August and the 14th of September. It is one of the most important sports events of the year, in which Spain, apart from participating in the competition, will be the host of the championship.
With this edition, Spain will be part of the reduced group of countries which have had the opportunity to hold this important basketball competition in more than one occasion. It will be the second time in which our country is the headquarters of the championship, after 1986. This way, Spain shows its fervent interest for this sport.
24 countries will be competing in the championship, among which we find the Spanish selection, with important figures like Gasol brothers. Teams which create expectations will also be participating in this edition, like the US team and its line-up of basketball stars.
Six fortunate cities will be hosting the different phases of the championship: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, Granada and Gran Canaria. Madrid and Barcelona will be hosting the round of 16 and the rest of cities the matches of the first phase.
The final of the championship will be celebrated in Madrid on the 14th of September in the Barclaycard Arena Stadium. The rest of matches of the final phase will be celebrated from the 6th to the 13th of September in Madrid and in Barcelona, in this case in the Palau Sant Jordi.
The first phase of the championship will be celebrated in the rest of headquarters from the 30th of August to the 4th of September. In Bilbao and Seville the matches will be celebrated in the Bizkaia Arena and the San Pablo Sports Centre. The Gran Canaria Arena and the Granada’s Sports Municipal Centre will be another of the chosen settings of the championship.
The MundoBasket 2014 is one of the most expected events by basketball lovers and one of the most important sports events of the year. Thus, it is a fabulous occasion for the host cities to sell themselves and show their charms to those who will travel to the named cities to see the matches.
If that is your case, we recommend you stay in some of the hotels of Petit Palace in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao. From their fabulous locations you will be able to visit the most important tourist attractions of the city, like the Puerta del Sol of Madrid or the Cataluña square of Barcelona.
