The city of Salamanca is history, a history that can be breathed in every corner, alley, square and garden. One of the most outstanding cities in the centre of our country and one which has been the fountain of inspiration for the principal national writers who also used this city as the setting for their works. Of all of them it was the author Fernando de Rojas who thanks to his work, La Celestina, elevated a little more the city of Salamanca.
Choosing carefully every location, La Celestina made Salamanca an immortal city, a place where this love between two young people was so well explained by the Castilian author. Recreate part of this story is possible visiting such charming places as the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea. If you are planning a lightening visit to a Petit Palace hotel in Salamanca, you should make sure you visit it.
This outstanding point of Salamanca (included in the popular Spanish Language route) is located in the centre and in a charming landscaped place next to an ancient wall. A garden that as well as offering unique views of the Cathedral, the Roman Bridge and the beautiful Ribera del Tormes, was also witness to the tragic love between Calixto and Melibea, the lovers and protagonists of the tragicomedy La Celestina.
The Calixto and Melibea is a romantic garden, intimate and totally different to a conventional garden, a work of art, a natural and relaxing place where you can get some fresh air, enjoy the silence and calmness and make wishes of eternal love, in the famous (and much visited), Pozo de los Deseos. If you are a lover of the most authentic literature of our country you really must visit it. In the more than 2,000 m2 you can enjoy many reminiscences of the popular work of Fernando de Rojas.
Although it is frequently visited during the day, when the sun goes down (in the moment that the sky has a golden hue) is when the visit is even more lovely.
The purely medieval atmosphere, the beautiful scent of the flowers in the garden and the ambience created by the subtle illumination (with the cathedral in the background) makes the experience really romantic and highly recommended during a visit to Salamanca.
