Red trees, secret tracks, springs full of life, breath taking views and freshness… what you look for when you visit Seville in summer and realize that the temperature rarely falls below 38 degrees. You should see Seville and live the life also in the summer but, can you escape this heat without having to leave the province? The answer is a resounding yes, and the name is Sierra Norte (Northern Highlands).

The Sierra Norte of Seville is one of the most beautiful and special natural areas in the province, so there is no discussion, you have to see it. If you stay at one of the hotels of Petit Palace in Seville don’t hesitate to ask one of the staff how to get there or if you go directly there from Seville Airport, look for brochures at the Information desk (there are many and very complete).

This impressive national park not only offers much more bearable temperatures than in other parts of the province, this is a Biosphere Natural Reserve. What does this mean? Just by taking a simple walk you will see the special landscape with native species such as the black and griffon vultures, the black stork or imperial eagles.

In order to maximize your enjoyment of the experience you should be well prepared for a good hiking session along the marvellous routes. Not only can you enjoy nature in its purest state but also you can visit some of the prettiest villages in the northern area such as Cazalla de la Sierra or San Nicolas del Puerto.

There are many itineraries to choose from, up to 18 different routes all very interesting. What do we recommend? Although you will try to follow the maximum of routes, there is one that you should not miss and that is Sendero Cerro del Hierro, which separates the villages of Constantina and San Nicolas del Puerto.

The Cerro del Hierro could easily be the location of a science fiction film and the strange rock formations of limestone, rich in iron minerals, create a completely different ambience which is why the locals call it the “Sevillian Siberia”. Apart from trekking, if you also practice climbing, without a doubt, this is the ideal destination for you.

Due to the high temperatures, what better way to finish your summer walk through the Sierra Norte by bathing under an authentic waterfall in a unique place? In this location in the province of Seville this is possible.

In order to carry out this last objective you will need to travel to the south of San Nicolas del Puerto because there awaits you the Cascadas del Hueznar. A humid area, famous in the world for its multiple waterfalls and wells, as well as and for the rock formations that have been created with the passing of the water the famous “travertinos”. A luxury for your eyes and to help you cool off in this month of August.
