Electronic music rules, and that will be the sound of Barcelona the following 12th, 13th, and 14th of June during the 21st edition of the Sónar, the Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art.
This festival gathers year after year the most important electronic music artists from the national and international panorama. This year the Sónar will not deceive its followers, as its headliners will be the band from Brisol Massive Attack, who will present their new show, a fusion of music, art, technology and politics.
Richie Hawtin will also be present in the festival in two different occasions. First he will attend the day Sónar under the alias of Plastikman to present his new show, Objekt. Then, during the night Sónar, he will go on stage with his real name to surprise to public with his new work Close, in which he combines electronic music with cameras and lightning.
Other artists like Caribou, Chic, Moderat, Lykke Li, Woodkid, Four Tet, James Holden, Jon Hopkins or Oneohtrix Point Never will also have a prominent role in the festival. The contemporary national music will be represented in the Sónar with bands like Balago, who will go on stage with their last work, Darder.
And that is not all. More than 140 bands make up this year’s programme. A wide range of artists that will make Barcelona’s foundations quiver.
Concerts will start at 12.00 am in the day Sónar, and music will go on until sunrise at the night Sónar. Besides, the assistants will also be able to enjoy the Sónar+D, an interactive exhibition of technology, and the SonarImage, an exhibition of contemporary art.
The concerts of the day Sónar will be held in the exhibition centre of Montjuïc, while those of the night festival will be celebrated in the fair of Gran Vía L’Hospitalet, visited last year by more than 121.000 people. We will have to wait to see if the festival surpasses those numbers in this edition.
For all those who come from outside Barcelona, this could be a good occasion for visiting some of the most emblematic places of the Condal City, like Cataluña square or the famous Gothic neighbourhood.
And if you want to enjoy the Sónar to the maximum, we recommend you stay in some of the hotels of Petit Palace in Barcelona.
