One of the most pleasant ways of beating the cold in February is to enjoy a hot coffee in good company while gazing at one of the most beautiful views that Spain can offer.
Amongst these locations with personality is Bilbao, which is outstanding for its characteristic green fields and magical humid smell and also the coffee bars many of which are more than one hundred years old, and drinking a coffee there is an unforgettable experience. If you have decided to have a rest from your daily routine and spend a few days at a Petit Palace hotel in Bilbao, we have here a selection of the best coffee shops in Bilbao.
- Cafetería Restaurant Monterrey: considering that this is the place for the best tasting coffee in Bilbao, a stop at the Cafetería Restaurant Monterrey is almost obligatory. Located in the Gran Via, this coffee shop is well known because they toast identically every day their coffee grains and can count on the knowledge of their expert staff. Apart from drinking the best coffee in town you will be next to the commercial area.
- Café del Arenal: this coffee bar with modernist touches is located in the old town of Bilbao, in the heart of the city. It is perfect to take a coffee on their terrace, but the interior is equally as delightful as the exterior. An idea place next to Santiago Cathedral where you can try an exceptionally good coffee, a cup of hot chocolate, or some high quality “churros” (fritters with sugar). Or if you don’t want anything sweet with your coffee try some of their delicious sandwiches.
- Café Iruña: if as well as good coffee you want to mix with the local spirit typical of Bilbao, choose the Café Iruña. Operating from the year 1903 it is famous for its vintage decoration and the great atmosphere inside. Within the 300 square metres space you can try an exquisite coffee and some of the best wines and local liqueurs. In the year 2,000 they won a special prize for the Best Cafe in Spain.
- Bistro Guggenheim: for our last proposal we have decided upon an authentic coffee bar situated incomparably within the Guggenheim Museum. This bistro has excellent coffee and one of the best views of the city. Although ideally you should take your coffee hot on the terrace, if you prefer you can enjoy it protected from the cold in the interior and go out to enjoy the views just before leaving.
